5 Benefits of Laser Therapy

As one of the very few physiotherapy clinics in New Zealand to offer laser therapy to our patients, Physio360 is proud to provide such innovative and exciting technology that helps to accelerate recovery and alleviate pain effectively.

To help you understand the benefits of laser therapy and how it works, we’ve put together an informative guide below.

How does laser therapy work?

Laser therapy stimulates the cells in the body to help with tissue repair, reduce inflammation and reduce pain wherever it is applied.

Using monochromatic light that penetrates the soft tissue, the laser works to increase the activity of cells so they can better play their part in the healing process. This means that any injuries you may have are healed faster and more efficiently, speeding up your recovery and getting you back up and running in a shorter period of time.

Patients usually experience a warm sensation and a reduction in pain immediately after treatment, allowing them to better perform their physiotherapy exercises and daily activities.

The benefits of laser therapy

1. Pain relief with no side effects

Most forms of pain relief come with side effects, even the innocent pair of Panadol you swallow for a nagging headache. With laser therapy however, there have been no long-term or serious side effects. The laser beam itself is perfectly safe for your body and doesn’t cause any harm or nasty reactions.

2. Non-invasive procedure

Laser therapy treatment is absolutely non-invasive, meaning that you don’t need to undergo any painful or uncomfortable procedure to get results. It also won’t wreak havoc with your body’s natural processes, it simply triggers a natural healing response. Plus, you won’t need to take any medications before or after this treatment.

3. It’s completely painless

Although it might seem a bit daunting, laser therapy is completely painless. As the laser beam touches your skin, there’s no pain or discomfort, just a warming sensation and an immediate feeling of relief while the laser does its work.

4. It works well with chronic conditions causing pain

Often there’s not a lot of hope for patients with chronic conditions causing pain besides taking ongoing medication or undergoing regular medical procedures. Fortunately, laser therapy offers long-lasting relief after just a few treatments for patients with chronic issues like back pain.

5. It’s fast and effective

One of the best things about laser therapy in physiotherapy is that it only takes about 15-20 minutes. That means that you don’t need to take a whole day out of your busy schedule to get this treatment done. Most people will feel relief after just one session, and find that they’re able to fully recover from their injury after a couple of sessions. Combined with physiotherapy exercises and advice, you will be well on your way to trouble-free movement.
